    Hard to Blog

I'm having a hard time finding the desire to blog again. I have things to say but twitter seems to be good enough and more immediate of a way to say them...

    Anyway, here are the happenings:

    • I'm heading to Louisville this week to visit my buddy Jay.
    • I will be starting the new job on May 11th, my birthday.
    • It's spring here and I'm getting restless. I need to force myself to get out more.
    • Finished reading Sideways today and it was great.

    Got the Job

I haven't made the announcement yet on twitter (waiting to notify one coworker) but I got the job. I had interviewed for 2 positions in the last month. The first didn't work out and I'm somewhat grateful for that. The second did. The new job is on the Kindle team. We own the purchasing experience: device and content. I will need to be discreet about what I'm working on in the future as it's a very visible and talked about device.

As you can guess I'm excited. It'll be interesting to work on a product that I use every day. I'm not sure of the exact date that I'll be transitioning but that's not much of a concern. I'm just excited about working on something new.

    The Kindle

I realized today that I never followed up on my kindle posts. I purchased one and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I use it in the obvious way, to read books. The interesting thing is that I'm reading more (I've heard this is a common claim). In the morning when I get to work I sit down with my coffee and read the New York Times (downloaded automatically every morning). Let me repeat... I read a frickin' paper. I've never read a paper before in my life. I don't read the full thing, normally just the top stories. But doing so has been enjoyable and I feel more informed.

One thing that I've yet to get used to is the ability to buy a book where ever I am. I'm used to thinking I have to pre purchase and lug around with me what I want to read. Now, where ever I am, I can purchase the book and have it almost instantly. It's crazy, really.

I'm currently reading The Picture of Dorian Gray. It and other classics are free (e.g. Treasure Island, The Three Musketeers, Frankenstein, etc.). Other devices have the same as these are public domain but regardless I love this feature. I'm a fan of the classics.

Anyway, it's a wonderful thing. It has allowed me to read again and has coaxed me into reading more. I thought this would be a much more difficult task than it ended up being.

How did I blog so much?

I have 71 pages of blog posts at 5 posts a page. 71 * 5 = too many posts to tag and categorize. More importantly where did I get all this motivation from? Was life really that interesting? I guess that's what a journal is for. To allow you to one day ask the question "what the hell was I thinking?".

Now with a name you can remember

New look, new host, new URL. I figured it was time to settle down with a name that will follow me until the end of my days and isn't based on some quirky idea or location. All you need to remember is my full name + '.com'. It was as good as I could do. Every shorter combination of my names was taken.

I've managed to pull a lot of my older posts into the site. I hopefully didn't lose anything in the process.

It's been interesting flipping back through my years of posts. It's still hard to read anything I posted about Buck but they help me remember. A goal of mine is to type up my Labyrinthitis history and provide specific information on my status as it seems like an important thing to document. Previously this information has only been available in scattered videos and posts.
